Who is DJ Slater?

DJ Slater is a Milwaukee native with a love for sharing stories. He wrote his first in third grade followed by several more during his school years, mostly about dinosaurs and an ambitious detective. His passion for writing took him on an appropriate career path – journalism, magazines and marketing.

When not writing, he loves acting, singing, movies, his family, friends and (not surprisingly) haunted house attractions. A special shout out to his late Grandma Barb, who told him to write his stories down.

A personal note

Thank you for visiting my author page. Legend Has It is a story that stemmed from one simple idea: What if you were trapped in a haunted house attraction and all the threats were real? From there, I slowly built a narrative around that question, digging into real-life legends, actual haunted house locations and my experience with these October staples. Next, the characters took shape, as did each level of the fabled haunted house. I'm still amazed at how much can come from one idea.

I'm thankful that I'm able to share this story with you. Like the main character, haunted houses are part of many fond memories from my childhood, yet they don't have the same spark they once did. Still, that hasn't stopped me from checking them out every October and admiring the moments when a foreboding atmosphere or a great jump scare brings back that nostalgia rush.

I'm also thankful that something I've poured my time, energy and love into will have a spot in the minds and memories of so many readers. There's something special about seeing others eager to read your work. I remember sharing ideas and concepts with my family and friends over the years, feeling ecstatic about how these stories would develop. Legend Has It is one of those stories. And I'm so grateful I can share it with a wider audience.

Personal photos

While this is my author page, I wanted to share a few personal photos outside of my writing life. From working remotely on a train in Germany to taking a few shoots in the snow, these photos provide a glimpse into my life and all the fun moments that make it worthwhile.
